How IXL Lesson Plans support your curriculum

Each lesson plan is designed to help you teach key concepts for your students’ grade level. At the beginning of every lesson, you’ll get a high-level overview of how your curriculum is being supported with the lesson’s objective and big idea, and which standards are covered.

Many lessons include readiness skills to help students prepare for the day’s class. Try turning those skills into a class warm-up activity using Group Jam!

IXL Lesson Plans also include a number of materials to support your teaching. Each lesson comes with printable student worksheets for the instructional and guided practice sections of the lesson. Other lessons outline ways to use common manipulatives to make math learning more hands-on for students!

Lead your class through the lesson

Throughout the digital lesson plan, IXL provides teacher notes and tips for support to help you spot students that are struggling and provide strategies to assist them. Or for students who need more of a challenge, IXL’s Lesson Plans also offer ideas for extension so you can easily differentiate instruction for all students.

Provide opportunities for extension

IXL Lesson Plans also make it easy to provide differentiated next steps for each student. At the end of each lesson is a selection of independent practice skills that are tailored to build from and support the lesson you’ve just taught. Like all IXL math skills, these practice skills give students instant feedback, step-by-step explanations, and often a video tutorial to help learners progress on their own.

While you monitor students’ progress through IXL’s Live Classroom, you can suggest next steps for students who are ready to move on, or redirect those who are struggling to retry skills from the lesson or consult one of IXL’s learning resources. To help your learners make more progress, have students work to proficiency (a SmartScore of 80) on each skill.
